Inauguration Stories

Hey World...
Whats goin on?

I was blessed to be hired to photograph an Inaugural Event at The Smithsonian Museum of African Art on Inaugural Eve.
I took my tuxedo with me to D.C. because this was a semi-formal affair, but I wanted to look impressive.
I didn't know who was going to be there, so it was better to be PREPARED...just in case.

As the guests started arriving, and eating the hors d'oeuvres , and drinking the wine, I thought it was going to be another "starched shirt" "stuck up" affair.

I was greatly mistaken.
Once the program got started , and the Honored Guests spoke, it was time to PARTY!!!!

Chris Rob and his band tore the house DOWN

The guests let their hair down, loosened the ties and danced the night away.

I met many people from all over the Country, and even exchanged cards with some folks.
The photos above are from the event, and if you want to see them all, there is a link on the right side of this page under LINKS.

I had to take my bow tie off and interact with the crowd all night...I had a BALL.

Inauguration Stories

Hey World,

I am going to start posting some Inauguration Stories from my trip to D.C.
Let me hear your comments.

After the Inauguration, my cousin Mike and I were walking (the wrong way) behind the Lincoln Memorial, when we ran into a statue that was about 20 feet tall, of George W. Bush.
It was an air balloon that was tied down and a generator was blowing air in it to keep it sturdy.

As we walked by, people noticed it and started shouting...PULL IT DOWN, PULL IT DOWN.
Suddenly a white woman walked up and pulled the ropes until it fell.
I could not believe it.

I dont know if this made the news in D.C., but I did get the pictures.
As a matter of fact, I watched as 2 other people pulled the balloon down and immediately it was put back up.

Stay tuned for another story tomorrow.

PEACE

On The Bus

Good Morning World.

I am on the 8:30 am Chinese Bus to Washington D.C.
As most of you may know, I am going to photograph the Inauguration.
It is my duty as a photographer , and a Black Man to be in D.C. for this once in a lifetime event.

The bus is full, but I still have a seat to myself....i've got some breathing room...LOL.

I have everything mapped out ....metro stops, locations, times, prices, etc.

I was supposed to be leaving at 3:30 pm,but I got a call from a group that is having an Inaugural Event tonight at 7pm.
The money was RIGHT!!! ...so I decided to get to D.C. a little earlier.

I will be staying with my Aunt Virginia....thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I forgot....modern technology is truly amazing.
I am posting this blog while riding on the bus.....YES wi-fi on the bus.

Anyway....I had to bring some extra camera equipment since I am shooting this function tonight.
Supposedly Dr. Maya Angelou will be there.
It is a black tie affair, and the tickets are $175

I could not call myself a photographer, and miss this Historic Day.
I requested press credentials from the Press Corps, but i was denied because of overwhelming requests.
I am not too worried about getting pics of the new President...as you can see by my blog the past 21 days, I have put up a different picture of him daily.
I took those shots of him last February in New Jersey

I just need to capture the events of the day, the crowds, the metro, the energy.
I can say I WAS THERE, and show it in pictures that will last a lifetime.

I got an e-mail from a friend on Friday.
He had planned way back in August to charter a bus to the Inauguration.
I thought it was a great idea.
He e-mailed me to say that he was 70% sure that he was not going to The Inauguration.
His reason was "The Cold Weather"
He asked me to give him some encouragement.

This is what I told him:

Years ago when they had the Million Man March, I didn't go because I felt like I was doing everything I was supposed to do in my community as a man.
Little did i know, that it would be the greatest gathering of black men to this date.I regret that to this day.
I talked to my cousin today from DC, I am staying at his mothers house on Monday night.
I told him that even if I had to walk the streets of DC all night..I would NOT miss this one.
It is TRULY a once in a lifetime event.
It should be at least 35 degrees on that day according to the weather forecast.

Quote for the day:
There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair.
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there.
There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem.
But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years — block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.

I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you. It belongs to you. I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington. It began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give $5 and $10 and $20 to the cause.

Hey World...

Our Son Doug(US Navy), and his wife Marie(US Navy) came up from Virginia to bring in the New Year with us.
Our 2 granddaughters are in California visiting their other grandparents.

We all decided to go to Dallas BBQ in Manhattan , including our baby girl LaToyah(College Grad,State DYFS Employee).

After we saw the tree in Rockefeller Center, we walked to the Dallas BBQ on 42nd St.

We ate good , and laughed hard.

Afterward I took them all for a ride through Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Enjoy the pics.
