Morning "Family Edition"

Members of My Family at my Potentate Ball in 2004

Good Morning World....
Thank GOD for another day.

Today I will talk about "Family".
It is a touchy, loving. subject.

Many things can be said about "Family", so I will start with a few quotes:

Some things you do because you want to. Some things you do because of the needs of others in your family.

Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.
Jane Howard, "Families"

Many men can make a fortune but very few can build a family.
J. S. Bryan

I think people that have a brother or sister don't realize how lucky they are. Sure, they fight a lot, but to know that there's always somebody there, somebody that's family.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park, Cat Orgy, 1999

I believe that , who you are as an adult, is a direct reflection of your upbringing as a child.
Some of us come from 1 parent households, which I think will produce a "one sided" child and adult.
Let me explain....
In every situation presented here, I will use myself as an example.

If I was raised by only my mother, somehow during my upbringing I will be missing the very important presence of a man in my household, so that I too may know as a man , how to interact with my family ,how to treat my wife, and how to raise my family in a way that makes the children grow up to be productive citizens.

If i was raised by only my father, I would be missing the compassion, sensitivity, and the emotional connection that a woman can give you.
After all...she did carry you for 9 months.
There should be some "emotional bond"
I would also be missing the picture of seeing a woman, lovingly taking care of her family.

Now, I'm not saying that in either situation, that 1 parent can't do it alone.
That would depend on how THAT parent was raised.

You see, it all stems from our childhood.

Children are influenced by what they see and hear during childhood.

Most would say...If you were raised in a home with parents that were drunks, or drug users, there is a strong possibility that you will become the same as an adult.
That is not always true.

Somehow during your journey in life, there comes a time that you must take those good, positive things that your parents presented you, and use them in your own life.
The negative, hurting, secrets must be put behind you.
They will always remain a part of your life, but you MUST learn to restrain them.

If you don't restrain will continue the cycle.

Therapy helps.
There are many people out there who have walked in your shoes.

I grew up in a 2 parent household.
Although there are many things in my childhood that I HATED...I have to say I was truly blessed to have 2 parents.
Those positive things in my childhood...I have learned to carry them on into the raising of my family.
Some things have been adjusted, only because the times have changed.
So you must learn to change with the times (VERY HARD)

The negative things during my childhood...I have learned to talk about them with my own family...sometimes in tears, because all I ever wanted to do... is what's best for my family.

There's an old saying:
"You can't pick your Family"...

I say:
"You can alter the way that that you were raised by your Family...

Have A Blessed Day!!!
